WTF Does That Extension Mean?!

Dot What? The file extension database

DotWhat.net is quite possibly one of the Coolest. Sites. Ever. In a really geeky way, but still awesome.

Using DotWhat, the curious can find the definition or meaning or use of any file extension (such as .txt, .asp, .html, et cetera), no matter how obscure or archaic and no matter what operating system. Ever come across an extension you didn’t recognize and think “What the hell does that mean?” or “What program runs that file?!”

The Internet needs not wait in ignorance any longer!

Thanks to Erik for cluing me in to this neat little tidbit!

Keyword with the Most Google Hits

Google Logo

Inspired by a post I found on Digg stating that the search term “a” had the most google results the author was able to find on Google, I did a little research. And I found a keyword with far more hits.

I searched for “www and tipped the scales with 25,270,000,000 results. Good lord! Several other words or phrases scored very high, and to be honest a couple I expected to be among the highest were nowhere NEAR any of the numbers brought up by a few of these.

Housing Maps

Everyone knows Craig’s List, the Internet equivilent of the classifieds. Well, while looking for a new place (specifically, looking to move to Boston, without knowing the city well), Erik and I found a great site called Housing Maps, which is a combo of GoogleMaps and Craig’s List’s housing section. Basically, it searches the housing ads on Craigslist and maps them on a google maps in relation to eachother. Awesome!

However, we didn’t remember to bookmark it (doh!) and when Ian called a few minutes ago asking about it (he’s looking for a place in Vancouver) I couldn’t remember the site name… some creative usage of Google and a 5 minute phone call later, we found the link and now I’m sharing it with you all.

Definately worth bookmarking!
