All That Kind of Goings-on…

WTF is THIS Crap?

I didn’t really feel like sleeping so I stayed up and drew and idly worked on a design for a large-ish web design project I may soon be undertaking. I am really excited at the concept and the people with whom I’d be working, but I wasn’t feeling creative AT ALL. But I got a very thoughtful e-mail from an acquaintance, so I spent some time e-mailing back and forth with him.

However, as a result of this, I’ve been sidetracked! There was an error I don’t think I, or many other people, would have caught in my My Information Society Concert Review. And it was brought to my attention in the following paragraph, where I describe the beginning of the opening song, Peace & Love, Inc, as a little disconcerting, but added that I liked the performance and thought it was great way to start the show:

…silence, and then the sampled voice of Kurt Harland saying ā€œI’m not exactly in the mood for Mozart, and all THAT kind of goings-on.ā€

My journalism teacher would have been proud of that overly dramatic turn of phrase, but then she would have likely given me an F… Because I never bothered to check my sources. I’ve come to find out just within the last hour or so… that it’s not true. I almost didn’t even believe it, but a very credible source has brought it to my attention that that isn’t Kurt - it was a sample from somewhere else.

Boy, do I feel retarded!

My worldview is shattered. Wait, nevermind, I just had dust on my contact lens. I’m fine now.

Housing Maps

Everyone knows Craig’s List, the Internet equivilent of the classifieds. Well, while looking for a new place (specifically, looking to move to Boston, without knowing the city well), Erik and I found a great site called Housing Maps, which is a combo of GoogleMaps and Craig’s List’s housing section. Basically, it searches the housing ads on Craigslist and maps them on a google maps in relation to eachother. Awesome!

However, we didn’t remember to bookmark it (doh!) and when Ian called a few minutes ago asking about it (he’s looking for a place in Vancouver) I couldn’t remember the site name… some creative usage of Google and a 5 minute phone call later, we found the link and now I’m sharing it with you all.

Definately worth bookmarking!

supercollapse 2

A couple months ago, I bought a GameBoy Advance SP. I’d played games on Ian’s a few times and wanted my own. So I headed down to GameStop and picked up a new GBA-SP in “Gunmetal” – a sexy charcoal colour – and a couple of games (Final Fantasy IV and Legend of Zelda: Four Swords).

Mo, a friend of Ian’s and mine, stopped by the house and dropped off two copies of Super Collapse II for the GBA-SP – one for Ian, and one for me. He actually worked on the game, so he was able to score us each a copy of it – for free!

I’ve been hooked ever since. While FF4 and Zelda are great games, they can be a bit involved at times, not so good if you’ve just got some time to kill riding in the car or waiting or at the bus stop. That’s where a game like Super Collapse II reigns supreme. It’s an awesome puzzle game that makes long bus rides, car trips, and boring periods at work FLY by. And the longer you play, the further you go, the harder it gets, so it’s always fun. If you’re a fan of puzzle games, I highly recommend it.

I’m just not sure whether I should thank Mo for snagging me a copy of the game, or tell him it’s his fault I’ve lost the ability to be productive when I’m within 5 feet of my GBA – the urge to play Super Collapse is just too strong!
